Wrinkles are a special concern. They inevitably appear as the person ages, no matter how well he takes care of his skin. Wrinkles can be fine lines, or deeper furrows that are harder to remove using just personal skin care. One usually has to go undergo professional skin treatments to remove more deeply etched wrinkles.
Here are some ways to reduce and delay the appearance of wrinkles:
Stop smoking.
Stay away from the sun. Sun exposure is the leading cause of wrinkles.
Get enough sleep. The best sleeping position is on your back, with your face not touching the pillow. Sleeping on your side or face can lead to the development of “sleep lines” near your eyebrows, on your chin and cheeks.
Avoid squinting. You can do this by wearing reading glasses, and by using sunglasses when you go out. When you squint often, you’ll have wrinkles on your forehead and eyebrow areas.
Eat more foods that have omega-3 fatty acids. These include fish like salmon and sardines, which provide healthy protein for your skin.
Avoid over-washing your face, as this can strip away natural oils and dry your skin, leading to more wrinkles. Instead, use cleansers that contain AHAs.
Use soy. Use it as a topical cream, or take it as food supplement. It helps to repair sun damage and firm up the skin.
Drink coffee. It has antioxidants that protect the skin.
Use skin products that have vitamin C and retinoids.
Take good care of your skin using the guidelines given in the earlier chapters. With regard to preventing wrinkles, the best thing you can do is to moisturize regularly.
Before using Botox or other drastic treatments to remove wrinkles, talk it over carefully with a certified dermatologist. Botox has become so popular and commonplace, but it is not necessary for everyone. Those who are younger than 30 generally don’t need these injections.
